Italy's first black senator takes heat from the public, especially african community



The first nigerian man Toni Iwobi who won the Senate seat in italian parlament, also the first nigerian who join anti-immigration Lega party.

Born in northern Nigeria, Mr Iwobi came to Italy in 1976 and became a councillor for Lega (the League) in the Lombardy city of Spirano in 1995.

He took heat from defend people, especially from africans. Many people calls him racist, even Italian footballer Mario Balotelli has attacked the country's first black senator in an online post.

"Maybe I'm blind or perhaps they have not told him yet that he is black. But shame!!!" the footballer posted on Instagram.
Iwobi, who owns an IT company, came to Italy in the late 1970s to study in Perugia. He later moved to Spirano, where he said he found the two loves of his life: his Italian wife and the League, then known as the Northern League. He became a councillor for the party in 1995.

Iwobi, a Catholic, argues that people should travel to Italy legally, just like he did. “I came on a student visa,” he said. “During that period over 40 years ago, coming here meant needing a visa. My party is fighting to restore legal immigration.”
