'Police officer among Cambrils wounded'


El Pais newspaper is quoting a police source as saying that one of those injured in Cambrils is a police officer.

Officers have not yet searched the van the attackers were in over fears that the attackers were wearing explosive belts that could explode, El Pais said.

La Vanguardia newspaper says the men were also armed with guns.

They were discovered by police during a security check in the port area, which is popular with tourists, La Vanguardia said.

After a short chase the attackers' van overturned. They got out and were quickly fired upon by police.

Catalan police say they are continuing to work in Cambrils but the situation there is now under control. They are still asking people to exercise caution.

A Catalan police spokeswoman says police have killed four attackers in Cambrils, south of Barcelona, and another is seriously injured following an operation there against what authorities called a terrorist attack.

Spanish media are reporting that four attackers have been shot dead by police in the town of Cambrils.

Cadena Ser reported that a group of people attempted to drive a van onto a pedestrian area in the town but the van overturned and its occupants were shot by police.

Cadena Ser says there may be another attacker still alive. They were reportedly wearing explosive belts.
